A good rackmount 1U server June 26th, 2006
I’ve been building these, and I can’t be happier with the quality of the parts.
Supermicro 6014V-T2 Intel Pentium Xeon (dual processor), Irwindale core. 2 Gigs of dual DDR-2 ram 2 SATA 3.0Gb/s hard disk(s) 250-300 Gigs each. One IMPI management card add-in.
I usually buy all the parts off NewEgg.com, but the IPMI card I bought from acmemicro.com
Then I install Debian Sarge on there, using a software raid-1 array. It’s a little difficult to get this install right, but once you understand how to fool Linux software raid into booting off the array .. well you better damn well write down the steps on a cheat sheet! haha.
I’ll be building another one soon, perhaps I’ll throw together a software raid howto..
